World Press Freedom day 2018, for the importance of press and media

The UN mission reiterated its commitment to defend Afghanistan's free press and to support the Afghan government in its efforts to implement measures that improve journalists' safety.

Sexual and gender-based harassment in the media, new threats to journalism and the re-positioning of Africa through press photography and videography would come up for discussion.

Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF), in co-operation with Dar Al Arab, held two workshops for journalists and public relations employees.

Dausi said the Peter Mutharika administration considers media as an essential tool in promoting accountability and democracy, adding that Government is satisifed that journalists in Malawi conduct their work in a safe environment and that no journalist has lately been harassed, imprisoned or killed because of their work.

UNESCO serves as an organising partner to keep the freedom of expression intact.
