Turkey opposition names fiery MP as Erdogan challenger

It will be Muharrem Ince, a long-time MP and fervent secularist and Kemalist who will be the candidate of the main opposition party CHP to run against incumbent Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the early elections on June 24 in Turkey.

They said the CHP had reached a deal with the fledgling Iyi (Good) Party, the Islamist Felicity Party and the small centre-right Democrat Party and would sign the deal at 3pm on Thursday.

The MHP and the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party have forged an alliance for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. A deadline of May 6 was set for election alliances to be filed with the High Election Board.

This Friday, the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) is expected to unveil its candidate.

The 24 June polls, which will see parliamentary and presidential elections held on the same day, will be a landmark in modern Turkish history.

Arsene Wenger will be 'surprised' if he remains in Premier League
Speaking after the weekend's game about the severity of Lukaku's injury, Jose Mourinho admitted : "I don't know. City passed the 100-goal mark in the Premier League and within touching distance of a number of milestones.

He had famously vowed to sell off Erdogan's very big presidential palace opened in 2014 should he be elected.

"Some people may look for their presidential candidates by microscope, but we have already decided on our candidate". The candidacy was also backed by the MHP.

AKP became the first party to name a candidate for the Turkish presidency.

After the vote, a new presidential system agreed in an April 2017 referendum, which the CHP has claimed gives the head of state authoritarian powers, will come into force.
