Triple zero emergency number fails after cable cut by 'unknown party'

Triple zero emergency number fails after cable cut by 'unknown party'

They said the cable cut by an unknown party between Orange & Bowral in NSW caused intermittent mobile voice connection interruptions in NSW, Victoria, South Australia & Queensland.

"We are working with emergency services and our government and enterprise customers to manage any residual issues", the spokesperson said.

"We are deeply sorry for the interruptions".

"As always, please call for genuine emergencies only".

The damage affected calls to Emergency Services on Triple-Zero.

There are concerns, however, Telstra didn't immediately alert emergency services of the cable fault.

Anyone who isn't able to connect to Triple Zero should call 131 444.

Disruptions to 000, the national phone number for emergency services, were first reported in South Australia before surfacing in the other five states.

It comes as the second outage this week for the telco.

Telstra said it became aware of that issue with its NBN and 4G networks about 1pm, and by 4pm a company spokesman said the problem had been fixed.

"The issue was caused by technical changes made ahead of upgrades to mobile traffic control equipment in Telstra's Exhibition Street exchange in Melbourne".

It's still not yet known when the service will be fully restored with St John Ambulance WA confirming its calls have been affected by the damage over east.
