Google Maps goes beyond directions

Google Maps goes beyond directions

The new Augmented Reality Maps experience would analyze the user's surroundings and determine their position in order to provide accurate and clear directions to help them get to their destination. Whether you're meeting up with friends, hosting out-of-towners in your city or simply exploring someplace new, Google Maps will help you make quick decisions and find the best spots.

It is also being reported that Google Maps will also use the machine learning and data to automatically match the user with new places and venues around the town. "And one of the overwhelming answers that we got back was just really a lot of requests around helping users explore an area, help me decide where to go", Sophia Lin, Google's senior product manager on the Google Maps team, told me. You can long press a result on a search query to save it in a Shortlist and then share that list with your friends. It uses preferences based on how you and other people have rated a place. All these features are for app, not the web.

Augmented Reality (AR) has clearly dominated Google I/O 2018.

Other Maps features showcased at I/O will be coming to the iOS and Android versions of Maps later this summer.

Despite the unpredictable conditions, history predicted the result - it was the sixth consecutive Derby that a favorite has won. Jockey Mike Smith , 52, is also being praised for the successful Derby run, but Smith is directing those praises upward.

In addition, the Maps and Camera integration can be used to show users what shops, landmarks, hotels and restaurants are nearby, by tagging the information from Maps to the correct building, making it easier for users to find a location they are searching for.

Recommendations for top trending activities, which are centralized around the area you're now looking at in Maps.

Be on the lookout for these changes in the coming months.

And finally, expect to see a new "For You" tab that rounds up all of those personalized recommendations. If you've ever wandered around in circles trying to figure out which direction your little blue dot was moving in the Maps app, this is for you.
