Could Don Blankenship, the Trump of West Virginia, Cost Republicans the Senate?

Could Don Blankenship, the Trump of West Virginia, Cost Republicans the Senate?

He's launched a racially charged campaign against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), which has intensified GOP efforts to tank Blankenship before they fear he tanks them.

After President Donald Trump used former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore's loss to dissuade West Virginians from voting for coal baron and ex-convict Don Blankenship, Blankenship hit back Monday by reminding voters that Trump backed Moore before his shocking loss.

Claiming that Blankenship "can't win the General Election", Trump on Monday alluded to the U.S. Senate special election in Alabama a year ago, where he made a similar endorsement. Blankenship is facing Representative Evan Jenkins and state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey to gain the party's nomination to run against incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin.

The President adds his voice to the national Republicans who are anxious that Blankenship's upstart campaign could upend plans to run either Republican Rep. Evan Jenkins or Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, who are seen as more electable, against vulnerable Democratic Sen. Nonetheless, Blankenship has surged ahead in the polls ahead of Tuesday's primary.

Blankenship is running a scorched-earth campaign, attacking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

In Indiana there are a number of interesting races, including six Democrats running in the 2nd Congressional District, the appearance of Vice President Mike Pence's brother in the GOP race for the 6th Congressional District, and another promising pick-up opportunity for the Republican who comes out on top in the primary to take on Sen.

"The president is a very busy man and he doesn't know me and he doesn't know how flawed my two main opponents are in this primary".

"I think he's getting bad information", Blankenship said.

"The establishment is misinforming him because they do not want me to be in the U.S. Senate and promote the President's agenda", he continued.

The ad ends with Blankenship holding two young girls and saying, "I will beat Joe Manchin and ditch "Cocaine Mitch" for the sake of the kids". No way! Remember Alabama.

"No more fumbles like Alabama", he added. "I've never used a race word".

The exorbitantly wealthy white-collar criminal - who is trying to steal a nomination from career GOP politicians on the strength of his media exposure and the virulence of his racism - also observed, "As some have said, I am Trumpier than Trump, and this morning proves it'".

Mr. Jenkins also claimed that he'd been endorsed by the president. "The president hasn't been involved in this race, but we are looking forward to him endorsing us after we win the primary".

Trump's tweet is a reminder that he believes, deeply, in the concept that winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Trump's tweet on Blankenship starkly reveals both of those character traits.
