Nurse gave CPR to dying woman as Southwest flight made emergency landing

Nurse gave CPR to dying woman as Southwest flight made emergency landing

Friday's announcement came shortly after the engine manufacturer, CFM International, issued a service bulletin recommending the CFM56-7B engine be inspected more frequently.

The regulator said late on Wednesday it plans to finalize the air-worthiness directive within the next two weeks.

The National Transportation Safety Board believes one of the blades snapped on the Southwest flight Tuesday, hurling debris that broke a window and led to the death of a passenger who was sucked partway out of the plane.

U.S. NTSB investigators are on scene examining damage to the engine of the Southwest Airlines plane in this image released from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., April 17, 2018.

Southwest crews were inspecting similar engines the airline had in service, focusing on the 400 to 600 oldest of the CFM56 engines, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Family, friends and community leaders are mourning the death of Riordan, a bank executive on a Southwest Airlines jet that blew an engine as she was flying home from a business trip to NY.

At issue are the engine fan blades on Boeing 737s.

Past due, Moody Blues inducted into Rock Hall
Illsley thanked the entire band and described the group as "a collective, a brotherhood". I love these guys and so do you. "I've actually written it many ways, many times".

Riordan died Tuesday after plane's engine exploded, sending shrapnel through a window.

It wasn't. Riordan, a bank executive from Albuquerque, New Mexico, died from her injuries. The metal fatigue would not have been observable by looking at the engine from the outside, Sumwalt said.

Videos posted on social media showed passengers grabbing for oxygen masks and screaming as the plane, piloted by Tammie Jo Shults, a former U.S. Navy fighter pilot, prepared for the descent into Philadelphia.

The Southwest Airlines aircraft, which was flying from NY to Dallas and had 149 passengers on board, was forced to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

CFM International, a joint venture between America's GE Aviation and France's Safran Aircraft Engines, said around 150 of the engines have already been examined.

Once the inspections are completed, CFM recommended to repeat the process every 3,000 cycles - about two years in airline service - but the FAA did not require such a measure.
