Jaguar & Waymo To Collaborate On Autonomous Car Sharing

Waymo, the former Google Self-Driving Car Project, already has a fleet of autonomous Pacifica minivans racking up the miles.

The Jaguar vehicles, like the Pacficas, will bear the Waymo logo and be part of its coming ride-hailing network. The vehicles are the first to attain a Level 4 in autonomy, which the Society of Automotive Engineers stipulates as a "high level" but not fully autonomous.

Waymo has been working on self-driving technology since 2009. The I-PACE will be able to travel 240 miles on a single charge and accelerate from 0-60 mph in under five seconds. By the end of this year, the company's autonomous minivans will begin providing service to anyone who wants to ride in them instead of limiting service to so-called "Early Riders" participating in the tests for the program. With concept vehicle looks and on-board artificial intelligence, the Jaguar I-PACE is the EV drivers have been waiting for. Now Waymo has committed to developing 20,000 autonomous versions of the I-Pace over the next few years.

Waymo has teamed up with Jaguar for its next robotaxi.

At a press conference today in New York, Waymo CEO John Krafcik announced the world's first premium electric self-driving auto.

Autonomous auto company Waymo is about to gain another 20,000 electric cars to its fleet thanks to a new partnership with Jaguar.

Israeli military captures 3 armed infiltrators from Gaza
Overnight Saturday, Israel bombed a Hamas position after four Palestinians infiltrated the border and tried to damage equipment. Brigadier General Ronen Menlis from the IDF spokesperson's Unit said: "No barrage of missiles was sacked at Israel from Gaza".

Back in October 2017, Waymo conducted the first public road tests with no one in the driver's seat in the Phoenix suburb of Chandler.

Waymo's news comes after the first death caused by an autonomously-driven vehicle owned by Uber just nine days ago, in Tempe, Arizona. Its size makes it ideal for city driving.

In a safety report, Waymo details the procedures behind each of its different tests for its technology.

Following that incident, Uber suspended all of its autonomous vehicle testing operations. Join us in a conversation about world events, the newsgathering process or whatever aspect of the news universe you find interesting or important.

Waymo's driverless transportation service is planned to launch later this year, allowing members of the public to use its app to request a vehicle in the US.
