Islamabad United wins Pakistan Super League

Islamabad United wins Pakistan Super League

It's been nearly a decade since National Stadium Karachi hosted the game of Cricket featuring International Players as Pakistan-Sri Lanka Test Match held here from February 21-25 was the last time, spectators watched their national heroes competing with foreigners.

Spectators had to use a shuttle service before walking more than a kilometer to go through two security checkpoints.

In bilateral battles, Islamabad United also have a slight edge over Peshawar Zalmi as out of 7 encounters between them, the former won 4 matches and suffered defeat in 3.

The Twenty20 match has great significance for Pakistan as it gradually welcomes back global cricket, which ground to a halt after a deadly attack on Sri Lanka's Test team in Lahore in 2009 which killed eight people and injured seven visiting players.

On the same tour, terrorists attacked the Sri Lanka team bus at Lahore. They were on their way to play the third day of the second test against Pakistan, and six Pakistan policemen and two civilians were killed, and six members of the Sri Lanka team were injured.

Addressing a press conference at National Stadium, Islamabad United Captain J.P Duminy said that it is a very great moment to play in Pakistan.

But a reluctance from some global PSL players to play in Pakistan remains.

Long Island forecast: Snow on first day of spring?
The southern parts of the area will most likely see the most snow, with one to three inches expected south of the turnpike. An impending storm system will bring a mix of snow, rain and freezing rain to the area by Tuesday morning.

The Opposition Leader in Senate Sherry Rehman said that holding PSL final in Karachi has once again revived the glory of the city of lights. Lahore first hosted the PSL final a year ago as well as three worldwide Twenty20 matches against a World XI and one against Sri Lanka.

Like Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira is Zalmi's ambassador this year and with the added push of her being a Karachiite, Miss Khan will be definitely out supporting her team!

Sammy joined the musicians on stage where he showcased his dancing skills with teammate and fellow West Indian Andre Fletcher and fast bowler Hasan.

Cricket fans stand in a long queue to enter the National stadium.

The cricket-mad country has since played almost all its home matches in the United Arab Emirates, where earlier rounds of the PSL were also staged.

Karachi will also host three Twenty20 internationals between Pakistan and the West Indies in early April, the first home series involving a Test-level team since 2009.

Thousands of security personnel were deployed to ensure maximum security at the Karachi National Stadium.
