US Kills Hundreds Of Russian Mercenaries In Syria

The US-led coalition delivered an airstrike against these pro-government forces. I don't have any reporting that some Russians, non-Russian Federation soldiers, but Russian contractors, were among the casualties. If Russian deaths from the US strike are confirmed, it would mean the two countries were on the verge of a direct military confrontation in Syria. Representatives of the Kurdish nationalist Democratic Union Party did not attend due to Turkey's opposition, while the Syrian government didn't send a representative because they consider the government to be legitimate.

Quoting a Pentagon official, CBS News first reported on 8 February that Russian mercenaries were among "pro-regime" forces that attacked the SDF base. A USA official said at least 100 pro-government fighters were killed by coalition defenses.

Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry says that Syrian government-backed troops were hit as they launched an operation against fighters from the Islamic State (IS) group.

As to who they killed, United States officials are no more forthcoming than they ever are, with Lt. Gen. Harrigian saying the U.S. is "not going to speculate" on who they killed, and that they flat out don't know whose tank it was, or who was driving it.

Yury Barmin, a Middle East analyst at the Russian International Affairs Council, a think tank set up by the Kremlin, said Russia supports Assad's efforts to reclaim the "crucial" eastern region of Deir Ezzor to help fund his national reconstruction and reconciliation plan, which the US opposes. I can't give you anything on that. The US reportedly accepted the claim.

Three people inside the tank were killed by a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone with precision-guided munition, but no U.S troops or Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militants were hurt in the incident, a defense official told Fox News on Tuesday.

Pence: US, Allies to Continue Peacefully Dismantling North Korea's Nuke Program
Mr Moon's spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said the North Korean delegates will attend the opening ceremony of the Games on Friday evening. Security Council restrictions in the past year that have slashed the pariah nation's export revenue and capped fuel imports.

At least 100 Russian mercenaries were killed by American-backed military forces during an attack on a US-held base in Syria, according to reports.

The Pentagon said they were created to protect United States backed rebel fighters in Syria on Saturday against forces loyal to dictator Bashar al-Assad - which are in turn supported by Russian president Vladimir Putin. "We have not received that word at Central Command or at the Pentagon", he told a media briefing on Tuesday. It said it was in regular communication with Russian counterparts before, during and after the attack, and Russian officials assured coalition officials they would not strike coalition forces.

"I also think it is essential to account publicly on interactions with the United States since the danger of an accidental or intentional direct military engagement between Russian Federation and the United States is growing", Yavlinsky said in a statement.

Leader of the Cossack forces in Russia's Kaliningrad exclave Maksim Buga put the number of people killed at "dozens", while speaking to Reuters. Strelkov wrote on his Vkontakte page on February 10 about "several hundred" killed and injured Russian mercenaries. It's also the most visible manifestation of American-on-Russian violence, even if the erstwhile Cold War adversaries were not technically engaged against each other.

Russian media have reported that in addition to Russian servicemen deployed to Syria, thousands of Russians also fought there as private contractors, most serving with the so-called Wagner group.
