Today is Bell Let's Talk Day

Today is Bell Let's Talk Day

"Struggling with mental illness is just one part of the battle", says Tebbit, who is in his second year of a master's degree in exercise science at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education.

Bell Let's Talk Day is in full swing today, promoting mental health awareness and raising millions in donations for mental health organizations across Canada.

That's why Time to Talk Day is so important.

See Me champions Suzanne Baines and Karen Lally have been busy travelling around Scotland, starting conversations at Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, St Andrews Old Course, Stirling Castle and the Falkirk wheel. Instead, the campaign highlights everyday people who successfully manage their lives despite a mental health diagnosis.

The annual initiative raises money for mental health programs across Canada, with Bell Canada donating five cents for every interaction involving the #BellLetsTalk hashtag on Twitter and Facebook, as well as for every text, mobile and long distance call on its network.

"We're finding things that work and then we're talking about them, writing articles about them, publishing papers about them, and it's getting into the academic literature where it can be identified as a best practice by policy-makers all over the world and it's strengthening our local community at the same time", Stuart said. By the end of her third year of university, her doctor suggested she have some blood work done.

People expanded out of Africa 40000 years sooner than we thought
This means there were even earlier opportunities for cultural and/or biological interactions with other local non-modern human species, Quam said.

"I went through post partum depression", she said. So I ended up self-harming and overdosing to try and get people to ask me how I was. "So it goes on even at high levels with people you think might have it all, so it's important to find the right outlets to help you get through it".

"I grew up in a generation when this was a treated like a dirty secret".

"What I really appreciate are the people - whether it be (TSN personality) Michael Landsberg, whether that be (Canadian Olympian) Clara Hughes, whether that be (former Maple Leafs defenceman) Paul Ranger - all these people that have been through it, and now step out and show they've been very successful in their sport; they're obviously very mentally tough, they've been very driven, and yet they still suffer". "Finally, I got to a point where I was suicidal and had no choice but to get help. Early intervention is vital and you need to be able to talk to do that".

Although society in general is improving when it comes to tackling the issues of mental health, there remains an obvious reluctance within many to honestly discuss the subject. He has also involved in a project speaking to medical staff about interventions with people experiencing psychosis.

"Whether that's talking to somebody, whether it's going out and connecting with nature, or reading a book, whatever it is that makes you feel at peace".
