Tillerson: Russia already looking to interfere in 2018 midterms

Tillerson: Russia already looking to interfere in 2018 midterms

Tillerson says Trump hasn't made a decision on next steps.

However, many Jamaicans are calling on Holness to reject the US agenda, which may attempts to garner support for sanctions imposed on Venezuela.

During his trip to Latin America Tuesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Fox News that USA officials are already seeing signs of Russian Federation attempting to interfere in the 2018 midterm elections.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says Russian Federation adapts fast to any moves the United States makes to combat meddling.

"The Lima Group is ready to speak out on the issue of the elections in Venezuela and we certainly believe that we need to strengthen the humanitarian aid because otherwise we will have a country with very serious problems", said President Kuczynski.

Asked about how prepared the U.S. is now compared to the 2016 elections, which experienced massive Russian meddling, Tillerson said, "I don't know that I would say we are better prepared, because the Russians will adapt as well". "Obviously it will be the president who decides", said Tillerson, who was chief executive of Exxon Mobil Corp before joining the government. About 60% of Venezuela's gross domestic product (GDP) comes from crude oil and its extracts.

"There's a lot of ways that the Russians can meddle in the elections, a lot of different tools they can use", Tillerson said.

A White House report found cultivation of the plant used to make cocaine rose to levels unseen in Colombia in almost two decades of US eradication efforts in 2016.

Phone World Team Wishes Kashmir Solidarity Day to All
Kashmiris considered themselves Pakistani and wanted to live under the Pakistani flag, he added. Pakistani leaders as well as forces personnel always have an eye out for the Kashmiris.

The decline in oil production is already deepening the misery for 30 million Venezuelans suffering from food shortages and a lack of basic medicines.

And it would also - to the concern of Venezuela's neighbors - hurt ordinary Venezuelans and could be a severe blow to the island economies of the Caribbean, which rely on cheap fuel.

Tillerson said the United States has been in "clear dialogue" on drugs with Mexico, the first stop on his tour.

Tillerson was speaking during a media briefing at Jamaica House which he jointly hosted with Prime Minister Andrew Holness, following bilateral talks between the two men.

Both men told reporters the issue of Venezuelan oil had come up, and Holness said that Jamaica was a supporter of democracy no matter what, and could weather an embargo with USA help.

"With the new dynamics in the global energy trade and with the United States becoming a net exporter of energy resources, Jamaica can, in this paradigm, benefit from it", Holness said. "This threat existed long before President Trump took office, and unless he takes action now, it will continue long after his administration".

Maduro and top Venezuelan figures have pushed back on USA efforts to isolate the country, calling it part of an orchestrated campaign to overthrow his regime.

"Nobody threatens Venezuela", Maduro said in a televised speech in Caracas. "If you don't, you're going to just continue to invite consequences for yourself, '" he told Fox.
