Saban recaps Alabama's wild National Signing Day

Saban recaps Alabama's wild National Signing Day

That was the approach coach Nick Saban took when evaluating Alabama's signing class Wednesday, which didn't include several coveted prospects who went elsewhere on National Signing Day.

He will choose one of those schools at 9 a.m. on ESPNU on Wednesday, which is the second portion of National Signing Day this recruiting season after the main event last December 20.

On Jan. 19, Surtain (6-foot-2, 183 pounds) visited Alabama, which won its fifth national championship in nine years last month, after dropping in on LSU on Jan. 12. He was one of the few remaining unsigned members of the 2018 class that can step in and help fill the void of NFL-bound defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. Patrick Surtain Jr., the No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2018, announced on Wednesday morning that he is heading to Alabama.

Still, the Tigers had nine defensive backs in the National Football League in 2017, including Super Bowl winning cornerback Jalen Mills with Philadelphia, to Alabama's seven.

Alabama and Miami came on late in his recruitment, with Surtain Jr. visiting both schools in January. Surtain picked the Crimson Tide over Clemson, LSU and Miami.

Alabama also failed to sign another offensive and defensive lineman, but Saban made it clear he felt good about the players that were signed. The Bulldogs had the nation's best class.

Iranian Women Go to Jail for Removing Their Hijabs in #Girlsofrevolutionstreet Protest
Despite the fear of reprisals, millions of women in Iran defy the restrictions on a daily basis. She protested for about ten minutes before getting arrested by plainclothes officers.

Alabama could now move far up from its No. 9 spot in the Rivals.com team rankings and finish higher than LSU for the 11th straight year.

"I think in every recruiting class, there's always a guy that you get that you thought you might not get, and there's also a guy that you thought you might get that you didn't get", Saban said Wednesday.

Joseph committed to LSU last week over such schools as Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas and Clemson.

Sidney Lanier's James Foster - a four-star dual-threat quarterback - has an offer from Alabama, too. One of LSU's goals entering the 2017-18 recruiting season was to sign a quarterback.

It looks like LSU will come in under 25, which means it would have space for a possible quarterback graduate transfer after spring practice when quarterbacks often chose to transfer.
