Pence on Possibility of Meeting With N. Korea: 'We'll See What Happens'

Pence on Possibility of Meeting With N. Korea: 'We'll See What Happens'

Although the US has not formally requested a meeting with the North Korean delegation, which will be attending the Olympic Games, Pence has not ruled out the possibility of coming face to face with them during his visit.

"Well, with respect to the vice president's trip to the Olympics and whether or not there would be an opportunity for any kind of a meeting with North Korea, I think we'll just see", Tillerson said.

The petition follows the IOC's refusal of a request Monday for 15 Russian athletes and coaches "cleared of doping" to attend the Pyeongchang Games.

Pence departed Monday for Japan and South Korea, aiming to ensure North Korea doesn't "hijack" the games as it participates on a joint team with the South, in the view of the White House.

North Korea plans to send members of its cultural delegation to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics on a ferry, amid concerns that travel by sea could curb global sanctions on the regime.

Tuesday's announcement came hours before a North Korean ferry carrying a 140-member art troupe was expected to arrive in the South Korean port of Mukho after being escorted by South Korean naval vessels.

However, there are tensions between US scepticism and the optimism of South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who wants to use the Games to improve relations with the North and open the door to eventual talks on its weapons programs.

3B Todd Frazier, Mets agree on $17M, 2-year deal
His addition will allow the Mets to move Asdrubal Cabrera to second base, where Cabrera is more comfortable. Wright has no intention of retiring right now and is hopeful that he can play this season in some capacity.

Seoul has said it will seek high-level talks with the North Korean delegation during the visit, Yonhap reported. Fred Warmbier's presence is "not a signal of a softer line", Kim said.

As for Pence's delegation, the father of late US student Otto Warmbier's father, Fred Warmbier, will be accompanying the vice president to the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

"It is outrageous that there is no concrete reason which explains my exclusion from the Olympics, and furthermore people now view me as an athlete who used doping", Ahn wrote in an open letter to IOC President Thomas Bach last month. He'll also be visiting Japan and South Korea.

Ivanka is also expected to attend some of the sporting events that United States athletes are competing in. Look at the delegation that they're sending - it's not filled with athletes.

What are relations like between North and South Korea?

Oser said his student is well recovering from a cold and remaining in good condition to give his best performance at the Olympics, where men's figure skating competitions are scheduled on Feb 16-17.

"They were replaced by some 900 military soldiers".
