No. 3 Justice Department Official Stepping Down Amid Turmoil

Rachel Brand, the third in line at the US Justice Department, plans to step down, The New York Times reported Friday.

Rachel Brand, the associate attorney general, will leave the DOJ for a job in the private sector, according to the report.

Looming in the background of the duelling memos is an ongoing probe, led by special counsel Robert Mueller, into potential linkages between Mr Trump's presidential campaign and the Russian government's effort to influence the 2016 election.

Last summer on Twitter, Trump called Sessions "beleaguered" and "very weak, and at a news conference in the Rose Garden said he was "disappointed in Sessions".

Brand was confirmed by the Senate on May 22 following a Judiciary Committee hearing alongside Rosenstein.

But the White House denied that there would be any changes made at the Justice Department later that evening.

Walmart sought Brand to be head of global corporate governance at the retail giant, a position a friend and former colleague, Jamie Gorelick, said has legal and policy responsibilities that will cater to her strengths. But Brand was next in line to take over if Rosenstein recused himself, or was removed and not immediately replaced.

Last week, Brand headed up an all-day summit on human trafficking at the Justice Department where she told a packed room that "combatting this evil is one of our top priorities at the Justice Department".

3B Todd Frazier, Mets agree on $17M, 2-year deal
His addition will allow the Mets to move Asdrubal Cabrera to second base, where Cabrera is more comfortable. Wright has no intention of retiring right now and is hopeful that he can play this season in some capacity.

"The men and women of the Department of Justice impress me every day", she said. That job would now fall to Solicitor General Noel Francisco.

Sources say Brand, who has only spent nine months on the job, is leaving to take a position in a Fortune 500 company.

DOJ officials said Rachel Brand planned her departure for Friday, and will start her career as a Walmart executive.

The president has repeatedly criticized Sessions, an ally and campaign advisor, for stepping back from the Russian Federation investigation. Brand oversees the Justice Department's civil, antitrust, tax and environmental and natural resources divisions.

The department said Brand will be leaving her post in the coming weeks.

She had recently pushed Congress to renew a foreign intelligence surveillance program that gives the USA government authority to spy on foreigners located outside the country.

"Rod and Rachel are Harvard graduates, they are experienced lawyers".
