Maxwell survives to steer Australia past England

England have been held to a below par total of 9-155 by a superb Australian bowling performance after the home side opted to send the visitors in for the second Gillette T20 INTL tri-series match in Hobart.

Australia are now atop the standings in the inaugural triangular T20 tournament after notching up a comfortable seven-wicket victory over New Zealand at the SCG on February 3. The pressure will be on Warner after he scored only 73 runs in the recent five-match One-Day International series against England and also fell cheaply in the first game of the tri-series.

Morgan felt that Roy had taken the catch cleanly and it was especially disappointing given that Alex Hales had just dropped the potent batsman.

The England star continued to turn heads as he blasted 50 from just 36 balls, including five fours and a pair of sixes.

Earlier, England raced to 2-88 off nine overs with Dawid Malan (50), Hales (22) and Morgan (22) all contributing quick runs. It was all Glenn Maxwell on the day and there were no surprises that he was named Man of the Match for his stupendous all-round effort.

An economical Agar finished with 2-15 from three overs including a remarkable caught and bowled off his first ball.

However, with Aaron Finch around and a hard-hitting middle-order - Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis - in place, Australia do have an explosive edge.

3B Todd Frazier, Mets agree on $17M, 2-year deal
His addition will allow the Mets to move Asdrubal Cabrera to second base, where Cabrera is more comfortable. Wright has no intention of retiring right now and is hopeful that he can play this season in some capacity.

There had been a clear-cut opportunity to remove Maxwell on 40 when Alex Hales put him down in the deep and, expanding on his views later, Morgan added: "It's two dropped catches officially". It was an exhibition of all his shots against the pace and spin as England capitulated with the bat earlier. "I would say yes but I don't know how, I don't have an answer", he said.

Fast bowler Chris Jordan has also come into the side after overcoming a hamstring niggle. Mark Wood and Rashid were the other wicket-takers but they were beaten by the brilliance of one player.

D'Arcy Short and Maxwell calmed things down with a 78-run stand before Short was caught and bowled by Adil Rashid for 30. The three teams will then fly to New Zealand for the second half of the tournament.

In the final worldwide fixture of the Australian season, ending England's 14-week tour Down Under, the old rivals battle in game three at the MCG on February 10, before the New Zealand leg of this series commences.

However, it wasn't without its controversy as Maxwell was caught by Jason Roy on 59. only for the decision to be overturned by the third umpire.
