England's Youngs set to miss Wales clash with knee injury

England's Youngs set to miss Wales clash with knee injury

New Zealand centre Ben Te'o will play his first England Test for nearly a year after overcoming an ankle injury to be included in the Six Nations match against Italy.

Shortly after, Youngs went down with what looked like a nasty knee injury after his left leg appeared to get trapped in the ruck.

When asked about his selection of the outside centre, Jones said: "Ben will add a different dimension at 13 for us".

England coach Eddie Jones said in the build-up to the tournament his team wasn't the favourite because of its long list of absentees through injury and suspension.

If England coach Eddie Jones retained any doubts about Sam Simmonds' suitability as an worldwide No. 8 prior to defeating Italy in the Six Nations, his misgivings would have been allayed by the Exeter forward's barnstorming championship debut.

On Youngs" injury, Leicester team-mate and England fly-half George Ford said: "We are hoping for the best.

Such is the strength and depth of England's squad, Jones has had a number of selection dilemmas to ponder ahead of the trip to Rome.

Italy refused to let England get away, however, and Bellini touched down in the left corner in the 58th minute following another wonderful pass from Allan.

Mattia Bellini scored a second Italy try, but Conor O'Shea's men were unable to avoid a 13th consecutive Six Nations defeat, George Ford, Simmonds and Jack Nowell adding late tries as Italy exhausted.

'At the end of the game we played some lovely rugby'.

Watson finished off two flowing moves in the first 10 minutes as England took quick control but Italy reduced the arrears with a superb effort when Allen's looping pass set up Benvenuti for a converted try. His record in charge of England is exceptional with Ireland, in last year's final game, the only team to defeat them.

When England got front-foot ball, they clicked and their attacking patterns and systems were a joy to behold as they cut Italy apart on more than one occasion.

England's Owen Farrell takes a penalty kick. "It was always going to be a hard team to play, sun shining, plenty to play for".

Both sides had early second-half scores ruled out by the TMO before Simmonds burst free from the back of a maul to score his first global try on 53 minutes.

For Italy, under Irish coach Conor O'Shea, the goal remains one of self-respect and the need to improve on a desperate run of just one win in their last 20 Six Nations fixtures.

"We've chose to give Ben Te'o a run at 13, but JJ (Jonathan Joseph) is unlucky not to start but will play a significant role as a finisher".

Cold day today, snow planned next week
A wind chill advisory will remain in effect until 10 AM this morning, with wind chills forecast to be 20-25° below. Snow may very well mix with and changeover to rain, especially from the Lehigh Valley and points south and east.
