EasyJet CEO takes $66k pay cut for gender equality

EasyJet CEO takes $66k pay cut for gender equality

EasyJet's new boss Johan Lundgren has volunteered to cut his pay to the same level as former chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall.

His starting salary was £740,000, and that is now being cut to match the £706,000 earned by McCall, who has since become ITV's chief executive.

McCall joined British broadcaster ITV (ITVPY) as CEO at the start of 2018, earning a base annual salary of £900,000 ($1.3 million).

"I want [equal pay and equal opportunity] to apply to everybody at easyJet and to show my personal commitment", Lundgren said.

He said: "I also want to affirm my own commitment to address the gender imbalance in our pilot community which drives our overall gender pay gap".

"At easyJet we are absolutely committed to giving equal pay and equal opportunity for women and men", said Lundgren.

George Soros: Google and Facebook 'Deliberately Engineer Addiction'
Soros warned that these companies would likely "compromise themselves" to enter the Chinese market. South Korea's President Moon Jae-in thanked Trump for contributing to this development.

The company blamed the imbalance on the higher salaries paid to its mostly male pilots. The salaries of pilots (and cabin crew members) have been collectively agreed and negotiated with trade unions, which means that y are exactly same for men and women. EasyJet added that they recruited 49 female co-pilots into their new entrant program in 2017; a 48-percent increase from the year before.

According to a FlightGlobal survey, her departure leaves just two female chief executives at top-100 airline groups: Usanee Sangsingkaew is acting president of Thai Airways International, while Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is chief executive of VietJet Air.

The overall gender pay gap figure at easyJet is 51.7%.

Earlier this month, EasyJet announced revenues jumped more than 14 percent in its first quarter, profiting in part from the collapse of rivals and massive flight cancelations at Ryanair, largely owing to a pilots shortage.

EasyJet said they recognised "we need to do better". The company recognizes that re is still room for improvement, and objective is that, for 2020, 20% of new pilots are women.
