Cubs land Yu Darvish on six-year deal

Cubs land Yu Darvish on six-year deal

The Chicago Cubs and free agent ace pitcher Yu Darvish have agreed to a six-year, $126 million deal, a source confirmed to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. Rosenthal added that incentive clauses could boost the contract's value up to $150 million. Darvish, a free agent, signed a six-year deal with the Cubs Saturday. Two years removed from a title, the Cubs obviously fit into that category and addressed a significant need by adding Darvish to their rotation.

Milwaukee reportedly pitched a $100-plus offer to Darvish recently, which he turned down.

On Friday, one report said that if Arrieta were ever to give up pursuit of signing a long-term deal during this ultra-slow market, there are several teams highly interested in talking to him about a short-term high salary deal. Before he toes the rubber for the first time with the team days from now in Mesa, Arizona, the rest of baseball's top remaining free agents likely will fall like dominos to new teams of their own.

He has averaged 11 strikeouts per nine innings over his career, which is the highest ratio in Major League Baseball history for pitchers with more than 100 career starts - ranking just ahead of Randy Johnson and Chris Sale, who are tied for second at 10.6. However, the Dodgers are hoping to stay under the luxury tax threshold in 2018 and couldn't clear enough money in order to afford Darvish.

The Next Call of Duty Game Will Reportedly be Black Ops 4
The rumor surfaced when self-proclaimed industry insider Marcus Sellars revealed the details on his Twitter account. So it's not really a matter of if the company will announce a new Call of Duty for 2018-it's a matter of when.

Arrieta was good last season, when he posted a 2.28 ERA after the All-Star break and made 20 road starts, the most by a Cub in 37 years.

Last October, Darvish beat the Cubs in the National League Championship Series.

Remember when Jon Lester signed with the Cubs? He has a career record of 56-42 with a 3.42 ERA, but is also five years removed from his best season, 2013. Montgomery will likely also be utilized as a spot starter throughout the season, as he was previous year when he made 14 starts for the Cubs. Darvish made two postseason starts for the Rangers, one each in 2012 and 2016, and lost them both.

If pitchers like Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb were going to cost $20 million per season (the market probably won't yield that kind of deal for them now), the Cubs figured it was worth paying just a bit more to get Darvish.
