Netanyahu confronts Putin over Iran's actions in Syria, Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin while on a snap visit to Moscow today, heading back to Israel at the end of the day.

Netanyahu, who paid a one-day visit to Moscow, is reported to be touched by the gift and is going to transfer it to the Jerusalem memorial complex "Yad Vashem" - the world's largest center for studying the history of the Holocaust and preserving the memory of the victims.

Iran, which is a close ally of Russia's and an arch-enemy of Israel's particularly in Netanyahu's view, is a likely point of friction between the two leaders.

"This is also our mission today and it is to this end that I want to speak with you, about our common efforts to promote security and stability in our region, and - of course - the cooperation between us, between Russian Federation and Israel".

Jury finds Ronald Gasser guilty of manslaughter in Joe McKnight shooting
Prosecutors told jurors Friday that the evidence shows Gasser angrily pursued McKnight and shot him from inside his own vehicle . The confrontation ended at an intersection, where McKnight exited his auto , approached Gasser's passenger window and was shot.

"We see here this very moving presentation of documents from the Sobibor uprising, in which a Jewish Red Army officer led - against all odds - the successful breakout, the breakout to freedom", Netanyahu continued.

Throughout its military campaign in Syria, however, Russian Federation has maintained good ties with Israel, with the two countries' air forces establishing close communications to avoid clashes when Israel would bomb weapons convoys to Hezbollah or other targets in Syria. Netanyahu told reporters following the meeting. "But it's a fact that Netanyahu has managed to achieve that, time after time, in these meetings". Netanyahu said he will pass it on to Yad Vashem.

Netanyahu and Putin met for some 90 minutes privately, and also held talks on bilateral issues with their wider staffs. Netanyahu said the discussions were "concrete", not "theoretical".

A high-ranking political source in Tel Aviv said on Sunday that "Netanyahu was urgently heading to Moscow because we are now in a situation where the Russians do not seem to care about the threats of the Iranian presence in Syria". Its troops have fought alongside Iranian and Russian forces, helping Syrian President Bashar Assad during a seven-year civil war.

The Israeli attacks are ostensibly to prevent Syria from obtaining advanced weapons from Iran and other sources and then passing them on to Hezbollah. Dozens of airstrikes on weapons convoys bound for Lebanon have been attributed to Israel by foreign media reports. This is the original of Oscar Schindler's letter to his wife.
