Kia Niro EV shows brand's electric future

Kia Niro EV shows brand's electric future

On the tech front, however, Kia is eyeing to show off its state-of-the-art human-machine interface and an advanced new motion lighting system that will feature on the Niro EV. The new Niro EV Concept is expected to be able to cover up to 238 miles (383 kilometers) on a single charge.

It's well known that a battery-electric version of the Kia Niro will join the lineup soon, completing a range that now comprises the Niro Hybrid and the recently launched plug-in hybrid.

A production-ready all-electric version would complete the set and see the company move closer towards Kia and sister brand Hyundai's vow to offer 31 electrified vehicles by 2020. To counteract its quietness, speakers sound an alert to passengers who are crossing in front of the vehicle, while lights provide an additional warning.

Another cockpit showcases a feature that allows rear passengers to listen to different music from front passengers, made possible by noise-cancellation technology creating two separate zones in the vehicle. It is, we're assured, built using new production technology earmarked for "near-future EVs" from the South Korean giant.

Kia's full announcement is available here. The prototype also features a system named Active Pedestrian Warning System, used to alert people of the silent Niro.

HTC Vive Introduces New Vive Pro Headset, Wireless Adapter
HTC's version will employ Intel's WiGig wireless-transmission protocol, as opposed to TPCast's use of a different 60GHz standard. That's particularly the case for high-end VR systems like the Vive or rival Oculus Rift , a headset from Facebook's Oculus unit.

Kia will display three different cockpit designs that show how their technologies can be adapted by future vehicles. Energy is provided by a high-capacity 64 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack, paired with a powerful 150 kW electric motor, the company says.

Kia's interactive "Beyond autonomous driving" exhibits combine existing and future technologies to outline the company's plans for vehicle autonomy and mobility, supported by the introduction of upcoming autonomous drive technologies.

Next up, connected auto technologies will be a staple in every vehicle segment, with the goal to make every single model a connected auto by 2030.

Kia vice-chairman Dr. Woong-chul Yang said: "Kia's connected cars will be both boundless and connected and offer a new kind of mobility experience".

At CES 2018, Kia actually presented several new autonomous driving technologies, which it intends to test on roads beginning in 2021, as well as the world's first 5G connection for cars.
