FBI's No. 2 official McCabe, blasted by Trump, steps down

FBI's No. 2 official McCabe, blasted by Trump, steps down

Andrew McCabe has stepped down effective today as Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell NBC News.

Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that days after firing FBI Director James Comey, Trump met with McCabe at the White House and asked the acting director who he had voted for in the 2016 presidential race.

McCabe is stepping down effective Monday.

. His wife ran for a state Senate office in Virginia and received donations from former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who has been linked to the Clintons for years.

A FBI spokesperson said the bureau had no comment on the reports about McCabe.

During the call, Trump suggested that McCabe ask his wife how it feels to be a loser, in an apparent reference to her failed campaign for office, according to NBC.

Sanders insisted the only pressure Trump has applied in this process was meant to make sure everyone got "Russia fever out of their system" and to drive home the point "there was no collusion".

Trump asked in a December tweet that how McCabe could lead the Clinton probe when his wife got donations from "Clinton Puppets".

Statue of Liberty to reopen on state funds amid U.S. gov't shutdown
Nearly half the 2 million civilian federal workers will be barred from doing their jobs if the shutdown extends into Monday. Governor Cuomo reached a deal with the Interior Department to have the state pay $65,000 a day to keep them open.

McCabe has also been at the center of major developments in the Russian Federation investigation.

Wray raised concerns about an impending inspector general report about the actions of FBI officials when the bureau was investigating both Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election, the report said.

As The Federalist noted on Monday, Fox News media reporter Howard Kurtz writes in a new book that McCabe prompted a conversation with then-White House chief of staff Reince Priebus about a New York Times report from February 14 asserting that Trump associates had "repeated" contacts with Russian operatives.

"We have seen the numerous reports as you all have seen", she said during the daily White House briefing.

Priebus was stunned by the implication that he was pressuring law enforcement.

Michael Flynn, then the National Security adviser gave a false story about his calls with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition.
