White House plan to replace Tillerson with Central Intelligence Agency chief

White House plan to replace Tillerson with Central Intelligence Agency chief

President Donald Trump smiles at Secretary of State Rex Tillerson after he was sworn in in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, Feb. 1, 2017. The overhaul could produce a significant shift in both the tone and direction of the president's foreign policy, removing it from the understated former oil man whose style has never fit well with Trump's.

"Secretary Tillerson continues to lead the State Department and the entire cabinet is focused on completing this incredibly successful first year of President Trump's administration".

The timing of Tillerson's expected departure remains uncertain, but multiple officials said the shake-up could come at the end of the year or early next. Nauert added that Tillerson "serves at the pleasure of the president".

If Cotton were to take the Central Intelligence Agency job, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, would select someone to fill the vacant seat - and Republican officials would have a tight time frame to field a candidate who can win statewide in 2018, even though Arkansas is a deep red state.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Kelly told Tillerson's chief of staff on Thursday the reports on Tillerson being replaced were not true.

In 10 months as America's chief diplomat, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has found no world leader a greater challenge than the President of the United States.

Pakistan justifies Saeed's release
In an interview with the BBC , Saeed said the court's decision was proof of his innocence with regard to the Mumbai attacks. Saeed was declared a global terrorist by the USA and the United Nations over his alleged role in the November 2008 attacks.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop hopes Rex Tillerson stays on as the USA secretary of state.

Ms Bishop says she has formed a very close personal and professional working relationship with Mr Tillerson and would be "very sorry" to see him go.

More junior-level advisers could also use the completion of Trump's first year and tax legislation as a pivot point to move on, leading to another period of uncertainty that has at times overshadowed Trump's tenure, which began on January 20.

However, they said Pompeo would need to resist the planned budget cuts and find a way to grapple with Trump's tweets.

That's according to two administration officials. The senator has advised Trump on issues like the Iran nuclear deal and immigration.

"If the president undercuts what he is trying to achieve diplomatically, convinces people that whatever you agree to with the secretary of state will be overturned by the president ... then he is basically neutered", said Richard Boucher, a former top US diplomat who now teaches at Brown University.
