Trump lights National Christmas Tree

Trump lights National Christmas Tree

Co-hosts Dean Cain and Kathie Lee Gifford were with the president and first lady Melania Trump as the switch lit up the Christmas tree, adorned in blue and yellow lights.

"Now as the president of the United States, it's my tremendous honor to finally wish America and the world a very Merry Christmas", the president said just before the First Lady pushed the button.

"With Trump as your president, we are going to be celebrating "merry Christmas" again and it's going to be done with a big, attractive tax cut", he continued. More than 150 volunteers from around the country spent more than 1,600 hours decorating the White House.

Lebanon's Hariri arrives in Beirut after resignation
The Saudi-owned, pan-Arab daily Asharq Al-Awsat alluded to French and Egyptian efforts in a front-page report on Tuesday. On Saturday, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said Macron should stay out of its affairs.

And that wish for a Merry Christmas, was proclaimed loud and proud, all the way down to this year's official Christmas cards.

In 2017, that Christmas spirit is now on full display at the White House. For example, he routinely makes the point that we should use the more traditional greeting of "Merry Christmas" over the politically correct "Happy Holidays". Perhaps President Trump has taken to wearing novelty reindeer socks? The White House said Mrs Trump chose every detail of the decor and did a final check late Sunday after returning from the family's Thanksgiving at their estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

The decor includes 71 wreaths, 53 Christmas trees, more than 18,000 lights, more than 12,000 ornaments, more than 3,100 yards (about 2,800 meters) of ribbon and more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) of Garland, the White House said.

One Twitter user pointed out that the dimly lit hallway lined with dead branches painted white looks like the ideal spot to tape a "Stranger Things" scene.
