Here's How Much The Mueller Investigation Has Reportedly Cost So Far

Special counsel Robert Mueller removed one of the FBI's top Russian counterintelligence investigators from his team after an internal probe found he sent messages that showed possible bias for Hillary Clinton and against President Trump, the special counsel's office said Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mueller continues to lead the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, despite a complete lack of evidence that Russia interfered in the process in any way.

Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer who was assigned to the Mueller investigation, received the messages.

The content of Strzok's text messages has not been publicly revealed.

The agent, Peter Strzok, is considered one of the most experienced and trusted F.B.I. counterintelligence investigators.

Mount Agung erupts for the second time
The latest alert - a red warning - means an eruption is forecast to be "imminent" after nearby locals spotted volcanic ash rain. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where tectonic plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.

The department has already provided members of House leadership and the Intelligence Committee with "several hundred pages of classified documents" and multiple briefings - including whether any Federal Bureau of Investigation payments were made related to the dossier, and has cleared witnesses including McCabe and Strzok to testify, she said. But in August, news outlets reported that he was no longer involved in the special counsel effort.

The New York Times and The Washington Post earlier Saturday reported on the messages and the removal of Strzok.

Though, Fox News reports the role Strzok played in the Clinton investigation may now be under review at the Department of Justice. Some conservatives encouraged Mr. Trump to fire Mr. Mueller, saying the investigation was tainted. Trump has called the probe a "witch hunt", while Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the accusation is the result of Clinton's supporters not wanting to admit the Democratic candidate has only herself to blame for losing the election.

According to the report, Strzok was transferred to the FBI's human resources department in the summer after text messages between him and a colleague were discovered, in which they criticized Trump.

On Saturday, following the reports about Strzok, the inspector general's office said in a statement that as part of its investigation, "the OIG has been reviewing allegations involving communications between certain individuals, and will report its findings regarding those allegations promptly upon completion of the review of them".
