Google Assistant comes to tablets and Android Lollipop smartphones

Google Assistant comes to tablets and Android Lollipop smartphones

With the broader roll out to older versions of Android, Google is making the assistant accessible to everyone.

It is also rolled out to 5.0 Lollipop phones that have the language set to Spanish in the U.S., Mexico and Spain. It's also rolling out to users in Italy, Japan, Germany, Brazil and Korea.

The Google Assistant will automatically come to eligible Android phones running Lollipop and Android tablets running Marshmallow and Nougat with Google Play Services. Stay tuned to Sid Tech for latest tech news, daily deals, and reviews.

Assistant launched earlier this year on phones, but tablets were notably excluded.

The Google Assistant can search the Internet, schedule events and alarms, adjust hardware settings on the user's device, and show information from the user's Google account and more. With this major expansion, Google said over 50 per cent of Android users across the world will have access to Google Assistant on their devices. Google also notes that Assistant on a tablet will be ideal to control smart devices like plugs and lights or ask about the weather. In India, Google had announced the Assistant for the JioPhone as well, which is a feature phone.

This February Google finally brought the Google Assistant from the Pixel and Google Home to other Android devices, but they were newer products such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and HTC 10.

With the massive variety of Android handsets it's not a 100% given that you will get the invite, but based on Google's announcement, that's all you should need.
