Flynn said Russian Federation sanctions would be 'ripped up' - congressman

Flynn said Russian Federation sanctions would be 'ripped up' - congressman

Michael Flynn sent a text to a business partner as President Donald Trump was delivering his inaugural address last January that a joint plan between Russian Federation and Flynn's business allies to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East was "good to go".

Representative Elijah Cummings, the senior Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, recounted the whistleblower's allegations as part of a push to have Flynn and others testify to his committee.

These statements from Flynn to Alex Copson, managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, reveal Flynn's attempt to "manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners", Democratic representative Elijah Cummings wrote in a letter Wednesday.

Mr Cummings detailed the Flynn claims in a letter to congressman Trey Gowdy, Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "These grave allegations compel a full, credible, and bipartisan congressional investigation".

A spokesperson for Gowdy's office did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday, nor did the lawyer who represents ACU Strategic Partners.

After getting the texts, Copson said, "Mike has been putting everything in place for us", and, "This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", Cummings said, quoting the witness. ACU was pushing a nuclear project in the Middle East that Flynn is said to have lobbied for while in the White House.

Flynn pleaded guilty last week to lying to the FBI, and pledged to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation into Russian election interference. Copson was working with Flynn to promote a joint project with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East.

Hannity: 'It Was San Francisco's Sanctuary City Policies That Killed Kate Steinle'
He pointed out that Zarate was a seven-time felon who had been deported from the US five times before the fatal shooting. So that is something that sanctuary cities including San Francisco have always said they would comply with.

Copson, who had previously employed Flynn to advise on the deal to build nuclear power plants with Russian Federation, told the whistleblower that it was the "best day of my life". On Inauguration Day, according to the whistle-blower, Mr. Flynn texted the former business associate to say that the project was "good to go".

Copson did not respond to phone and email messages from ABC News left at his home and with his attorney.

But reports over the last few months have suggested that Flynn continued to promote the project after the election, and even after he had been sworn in as national security adviser.

Cummings has argued that the Flynn plea deal should alleviate that concern.

Cummings said he had found the unnamed informant to be "authentic, credible and reliable", and offered to produce the person for Gowdy.

"Although this individual was extremely hesitant to come forward - and still fears retaliation - the whistleblower has made a decision to do so now because this individual feels duty bound as a citizen to make this disclosure", he wrote. Cummings said his office could not verify the whistleblower's story, and whether Copson was telling the whistleblower the truth, without subpoenaed documents. Flynn said on a federal filing that he served as an advisor to the company between April 2015 and June 2016.
