Facebook's new Snooze button mutes friends for a month or more

Facebook's new Snooze button mutes friends for a month or more

If you're exhausted of social media hot takes from distant relatives and high school friends, Facebook's got news for you!

One of the many factors that drove me away from Facebook more than five years ago was the fact that I had somehow amassed over 600 "friends" since joining in 2005. Today, we're launching Snooze, which will give you the option to temporarily unfollow a person, Page or group for 30 days. People you mute this way won't get notified of it, and users will get a notification once a mute is about to expire, with the option to get some peace of mind for another 30 days. You can also reverse it anytime. With it, you can easily mute one or some of your friends' posts who keep on publishing irritating cat videos. In addition to upgrading its AI technology to detect suicidal ideation last month, Facebook announced on Friday it was introducing a "snooze" feature it hopes will help with overall user well-being.

Also works with Pages and groups. The people, Pages, and groups you snooze will not be notified.

YouTube is reportedly launching a music streaming service called Remix
The new service would incorporate certain YouTube elements, including video, in a Spotify-like format. Record label Warner Music Group has already confirmed its participation, the sources said.

People often tell us they want more say over what they see in News Feed. However, this feature comes as the company faces serious questions about its adverse effects on society. Facebook claims social media is fine, but many people aren't using it right.

Sometimes there are people on your Facebook feed you just don't want to see for a while. However, some researchers posited that reading about others over the Internet may compel them to compare themselves to others, thereby, getting a negative feeling about it.

The new feature which is now rolling out will be available by clicking the option button (an arrow) at the top right of the post, and selecting the new Snooze option.
