Erdoğan meets Palestine's Abbas with Jerusalem high on agenda

The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold an extraordinary Summit in Istanbul on Wednesday to discuss the repercussions of the recognition by the United States of Al-Quds as a capital of Israel.

According to the official, Erdogan is following a pattern of behavior he used in 2010 following the MV Mavi Marmara protest ship incident, in which he rode his confrontational approach to Israel to a position of great popularity in the Arab and Muslim world.

The conference will be preceded by the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting which will be attended by Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the foreign office said.

The special summit has been called by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his capacity as the chair of the OIC summit.

The same strong reaction came from him even before President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital describing the status of the city, whose eastern sector Palestinians see as the capital of their future state, as a red line for Muslims.

Chiefs Jets Week 13 score, highlights
The Chiefs then jumped ahead when Tyreek Hill caught his second long touchdown of the day, this one 40 yards from Smith. The Jets (5-7) blew fourth-quarter leads in three of their previous five games heading into this weekend.

Abbas is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad al-Malki, Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina, member of Fatah Central Committee Hussein al-Sheikh, and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Turkey Fayed Mustafa among others. With only one day to go, Cavusoglu admitted several of the 57 OIC nations have not indicated who they will send, prominently including Saudi Arabia. Erdogan has already warned of cutting ties with Israel.

"If we don't defend Jerusalem today, when will we defend it?" he asked.

Uniting the Palestinian positions, as well as the Arab and Islamic positions will support the efforts to face the United States decision and will support the Palestinian intifada. Thereafter, al-Maliki stated, on behalf of the PA leader, that "Jerusalem is and will remain the eternal Palestinian capital [despite any attempts] to assassinate its identity or falsify its history".

Among the "possible decision that the OIC could take", the paper wrote, are declaring that Trump's decision is "null and void", and taking urgent "initiatives to halt its implementation".
