Deutsche Bank turns over Trump documents after Mueller subpoena

Donald Trump's banking records have been handed to special counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating alleged collusion between the president's campaign team and Russian Federation.

Mueller is probing reported Russian attempts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election and potential collusion by Trump advisers.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also said the reports were false.

According to media reports, Mr. Trump owed Deutsche Bank as much as $340 million (€286.5 million) at one point, though considerable restructuring appears to have brought down that amount.

One month before we elected Donald Trump as our 45th president, Jared Kushner secured a $285 million loan from Deutsche Bank.

It's not clear who Mueller is targeting or whether other members of Trump's campaign team under scrutiny by the special counsel may also have had business connections to Deutsche Bank.

Mueller issued a subpoena to Germany's largest lender several weeks ago, forcing the bank to submit documents on its relationship with Trump and his family, according to a person briefed on the matter, who asked not to be identified because the action has not been announced. Trump told the New York Times in July that the special counsel looking into his and his family's finances would cross a red line, so we have officially entered uncharted territory in this investigation. "The subpoena concerns people or entities close to Mr. Trump".

He also receives a speaking fee from a Russian government-run television network that US officials consider a propaganda outlet. Mueller's charging documents state bluntly that Flynn interfered with the FBI's inquiry into Trump-Russia collusion.

Deutsche Bank had been one of Trump's most reliable lenders.

President Donald Trump (L) shakes hands with James Comey, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), during an Inaugural Law Enforcement Officers and First Responders Reception in the Blue Room of the White House on January 22, 2017 in Washington, DC.

Trump and Deutsche Bank have not always been on good terms.

Deutsche Bank is not the only Trump-related business interest that is attracting the attention of investigators. Allegedly the bank helped finance the renovation of the Old Post Office in Washington, the purchase of the Doral golf course in Florida and the construction of an office building in Chicago. And the other line is Deutsche New York's extraordinary lending to Trump.

During his election campaign, Mr Trump said he would seek to improve ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which were strained during former president Barack Obama's administration. In fact, Trump went on, because of the bank's role in creating this "once-in-a-century credit tsunami", Deutsche Bank owed him money, to the tune of $3 billion in damages.

In October, Manafort pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy to launder money and conspiracy against the United States.
