Supreme Court refuses to hear Samsung appeal on Apple patent infringements

Supreme Court refuses to hear Samsung appeal on Apple patent infringements

Apple accused Samsung of infringing these patents in 2011. A three-judge panel originally overturned it, but the ruling was flipped once more after all 11 judges sitting on the patent court heard the case. We're guessing that every court decision made in the future, as evidenced by history, will be appealed, so don't expect Apple vs. Samsung to settle down anytime soon. The case majorly involves Apple's iconic slide to unlock patents and a few other less famous patents such as Apple's "quick link" feature which automatically turns information such as a phone number into a clickable link.

Samsung, a company that has eaten away Apple's once-dominant market share in the smartphone market, argued that several Apple patents covered technology that's too trivial to be patented. Samsung was still ordered to pay $119.6 million in damages to Apple for violating three patents, which is a far cry from the $2.2 billion Apple was seeking.

Nights Of Sunset Before 5 PM Ahead As Daylight Saving Time Ends
The idea was that shifting the clock would mean the best hours of sunlight happened at the most opportune time of the day. Daylight saving time was used during World War I , according to several historical sources, as a way to reserve fuel.

The company's not happy of course, stating that its argument was supported by many who thought that the case should be heard in order to enforce fair standards that promote innovation and prevent abuse of the patent system. That amount excluded another $382 million in damages for allegations that Samsung copied Apple's packaging materials. "One of Apple's patents at issue in this case has been invalidated by courts around the world, and yet today's decision allows Apple to unjustly profit from this patent, stunts innovation and places competition in the courtroom rather than the marketplace".

Apple did not immediate respond to an AFP query on the decision. Apple sold 75.5 million iPhones in the October-December quarter, according to research firm FactSet StreetAccount, 1 million more than what was sold in the year-ago quarter.
