Chinese President Xi Jinping told his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in on Saturday that he encouraged Seoul to resume dialogue with North Korea, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The leaders of South Korea and China, moon Jae-In and XI Jinping have agreed on the peaceful settlement of relations with North Korea. For the next two days, President Moon will attend the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, along with officials and leaders from 20 other member economies. He is also scheduled to hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang for a follow-up on bilateral relations on Monday on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit, and to discuss how to ease the economic retaliations China has taken against Korea.

"With the North Korea situation at an important phase, the role China ought to play is very big", Abe said.

Moon's visit to Indonesia is his first to Southeast Asia since taking office.
