Dem Reads Trump Tweets During Sessions Hearing

As CBS News reports, last month Sessions told the committee that the campaign was not in contact with Russian operatives during the 2016 election cycle, but newly unsealed court documents indicated that during a March 2016 meeting Donald Trump and Sessions attended former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos offered to arrange a meeting with then-candidate Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Sessions testified at an open hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, and Conyers made a decision to base his first line of questioning on the following Trump tweets. In that written statement, the former Trump campaign national security adviser claimed that he had told Sessions about "connections" he had that "could help arrange a meeting between then-candidate Trump and President Putin" in March of previous year.

Sessions, then a senator from Alabama, led a foreign policy advisory council for the Trump campaign.

The comment by Sessions to a House of Representatives panel did not reveal any new link between the Trump team and Russian Federation but it was another example of the top USA law enforcement official offering a different version of events as lawmakers try to work out if the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation in the 2016 election.

"I have not been improperly influenced and would not be improperly influenced", Mr. Sessions said.

Numerous items Goodlatte wanted probed had always been conservative talking points, some having to do with matters many considered long resolved: various decisions made in the Clinton email case, the Uranium One purchase, the so-called "unmasking" of people by the intelligence committee, and allegations, which officials have said were untrue, by Trump that he was wiretapped by his predecessors. "But it was a form of chaos every day from day one".

Sessions faced tough questioning from committee Democrats on Tuesday. "I have chose to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for President of the United States", he said.

Many panicked because they were unsure whether it was a local problem, an issue with their phone or the entire nation. While the problems were focused in western Europe and Asia, it was also reported in many parts of the world.

"I believe that I wanted to make clear that he wasn't authorized to represent the campaign with the Russian government, or any other foreign government, for that matter", he testified.

"That's what it looks like", he added, prompting Sessions reply.

"Are you recused from investigations that involved Secretary Clinton?"

"I will not accept and reject accusations that I have ever lied under oath".

Sessions also suggested all of his answers before Congress were answered to the best of his recollection. When The Washington Post later revealed he had twice spoken with Russia's ambassador to the United States, he revised his account, saying he had no meetings with Russians "to discuss issues of the campaign". "I would say that's not fair, Mr. Jeffries".

Sessions previously testified at a similar hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee in October.
