Richard Spencer Supporters Arrested for Shooting at Protesters in Florida

Richard Spencer Supporters Arrested for Shooting at Protesters in Florida

The three individuals - Tyler Tenbrink, 28, William Fears, 30, and Colton Fears, 28 - are all from Texas, according to police. Tenbrink was also charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, stemming from an arrest in 2009 for aggravated kidnapping of a female acquaintance in Texas. 30 year old William Fears and his brother Colton, 28, were with Tenbrink when he drove off in a silver Jeep. Police said that's when Tenbrink got out of the auto and took out a handgun while the Fears brothers yelled "shoot them" and "kill them", according to the report.

Tenbrink allegedly fired a single shot at the group, which did not injure anyone and struck a nearby building. Just a few hours later, an off-duty Alachua County sheriff's deputy, who was on his way home after working the Spencer event, began searching for the vehicle and ultimately found it.

Gainesville area law enforcement located and arrested three men about 20 miles north of Gainesville late Thursday for their role in a shooting that followed the afternoon speech by Richard Spencer. They were being held in the Alachua County Jail.

Tenbrink allegedly fired at the group of protesters, police said. And in an interview with The Washington Post on Thursday, Tenbrink said he came to Gainesville to support Spencer.

Both Tenbrink and William Fears appear to have been committed white nationalists.

Leading up to the start of the event, audience members at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts began to boo before Spencer even took the stage.

Lighthizer Slams Canada and Mexico for Refusing to Accept NAFTA Reforms
However, Mexican Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo told CNNMoney in April that such a proposal wouldn't work for him. Mexican and Canadian officials are set to release a joint statement at 3 p.m.

As previously reported, Florida's Republican Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency in advance of the event to stave off potential violence.

Earlier Thursday, Tenbrink told the paper he had driven to Gainesville from Houston to see Spencer speak.

As the man walked through the crowd, he was quickly surrounded by protesters and chanting.

"Despite our worst fears of violence, the University of Florida and the Gainesville community showed the world that love wins", said University of Florida President Kent Fuchs. They were "threatening, offering Nazi salutes and shouting chants about Hitler", the Gainesville Police Department said in a statement.

A man then hit the Jeep's back window with a baton and the vehicle abruptly stopped.

The school estimates it is spending $600,000 on security to ensure no repeat of violent clashes connected to a white nationalist gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia, that left one dead in August.
