Obama aides slam Trump over claim about past presidents, fallen soldiers

Obama aides slam Trump over claim about past presidents, fallen soldiers

"I mean, you could ask Gen. Kelly did he get a call from Obama".

President Obama breaks record for pardons during his tenure in the White House.

He also claimed, without merit, that his predecessors hadn't written or called the families of slain American troops during their tenures, though the tradition of presidents reaching out after USA servicemen are killed in action is long-established.

Trump made this claim while explaining why he had not yet made a statement about the four US special-forces who had died on October 4 in Niger during a deadly ambush by dozens of Islamic extremists.

"As far as other representatives, I don't know", Trump told Fox News radio host Brian Kilmeade.

"He's a deranged animal", Alyssa Mastromonaco, a former deputy chief of staff to President Obama, tweeted about President Trump. "Obama and other presidents" most certainly made calls.

Kelly's son Robert died in combat in 2010 in Afghanistan when he stepped on a bomb.

Retired General Martin E. Dempsey, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed these contacts, tweeting: "POTUS 43 & 44 and first ladies cared deeply, worked tirelessly for the serving, the fallen, and their families".

Trump threatens to pull NBC's license after unflattering news stories
Trump again called the report "fake news " and added that such an increase in the nuclear arsenal was "totally unnecessary". He followed up nearly immediately with his veiled threat to strip NBC of their licence.

Something Rachel said on the show last night struck me as important.

Trump's remarks Monday marked the first time he's commented at all - in person or on Twitter - about the Green Berets and U.S. support personnel who were slain around the October 4 raid. I don't know what (George W) Bush did.

Freddy Ford, a spokesman for the ex-president, said Mr Bush wrote to "all the families of the fallen" while in office and called or met "hundreds if not thousands" of relatives.

"I think that the inattention to this issue is not acceptable", Reed told CNN.

Kelly and his wife, Karen Hernest Kelly, attended a 2011 Memorial Day breakfast for Gold Star families, those men and women whose children were killed in action, according to an aide, speaking on background.

On Tuesday, Trump bragged about calling loved ones from all those killed in action during his presidency.

President Donald Trump accused President Barack Obama of failing to call the families of fallen soldiers.

"I will, at some point during the period of time, call the parents and the families - because I have done that, traditionally", he added. "Other presidents did not call, they'd write letters. I don't know. That's what I was told", Trump added. All you have to do is ask the military people, but I believe his policy was somewhat different than my policy. Kelly also has not responded to a direct request from comment from CNN. Trump's comments were misleading and inaccurate, and when he was pressed about them later in the news conference, he tried to backtrack.
