Air France flight makes emergency landing after engine blowout

Air France flight makes emergency landing after engine blowout

Flight AF 066 was diverted to Goose Bay Airport on Canada's east coast, where it landed safely Saturday, the airline said in a statement.

Flight AF66 was originally scheduled to travel from Paris to Los Angeles.

Passengers were horrified when the engine fell apart following a "loud thud" and "vibration".

Air France confirmed the incident but offered few details, saying passengers were in the process of being transitioned to new flights to LA.

The plane landed safely at around 1:40pm local time with part of the engine missing and debris scattered across the runway.

Asian Shares Mostly Lower As Fed Turns Hawkish
Interest rates have stayed low despite a shallow unemployment rate of 4.4 percent in August and inflation down to 1.4 percent. Thus, a few disappointing bits of economic data should not be expected to divert the Fed from its rate hike plans.

Shocking photos show the engine badly damaged as it flew at a height of 38,000 feet.

According to the CBC broadcaster, one of the four engines of the Airbus A380, the largest passenger plane, failed over the Atlantic Ocean.

Air France said they were looking for "rerouting solutions" for passengers affected by the incident.

"We saw the cabin crew walking through the aisles quickly, and we heard an announcement from the captain that said one of our engines had an explosion".
