Uber Boss Responds To Ban And Petition — Exclusive Interview

Uber Boss Responds To Ban And Petition — Exclusive Interview

Irrespective of whether we did everything that is being said about us in London today (and to be clear, I don't think we did), it really matters what people think of us, especially in a global business like ours, where actions in one part of the world can have serious consequences in another.

Record-breaking numbers have now signed a petition calling for Transport for London to reverse its decision to strip Uber's licence in the capital.

But Uber has said it plans to challenge the decision in court, and it will be able to continue operating in the city until the appeals process is exhausted.

Uber's history of scandals and carelessness for local rules has now landed it in trouble on Friday when London declined to restore the ride-hailing organization's permit to work in the city, its biggest European market.

More than 3 million customers use the Uber app in London, along with 400,000 drivers.

The company claim that "Transport for London and their chairman the Mayor have given in to a small number of people who want to restrict consumer choice".

US Urges Kurds to Call Off Independence Vote
In recent years, there have been tensions between Baghdad and Kurdistan over power-sharing, oil revenues and territorial disputes. While Baghdad recognizes Kurdistan's autonomy, the precise boundary between the region and the rest of Iraq is unclear.

The move, which sparked an outcry from a coalition of customers, government ministers and the company's drivers, also prompted Uber executives to adopt a more conciliatory tone as they look to appeal the ruling.

Although the TfL decision has left the public disappointed, as they may be forced to consider alternatives to their favourite ride-on-demand service, it has been praised by many, including employment rights advocates such as the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association, which represents the city's black cabs and the city mayor, Sadiq Khan. He further tweeted an appeal to people of London to "work with us" in solving the issue. Uber asked customers for help in its fight with London regulators.

Mr McDonnell showed no sympathy for the USA firm and revealed that he had never travelled in an Uber cab. It succeeded in reversing regulatory decisions in London and in NY in 2015. TfL has said that as a private hire operator Uber is not fit to run in London.

"They have a lot more scrutiny on them now", said Reed Galen, a political consultant who worked with Uber on a campaign in Austin.

London police also complained in a letter published that Uber was either not disclosing, or taking too long, to report serious crimes including sexual assaults and this put the public at risk.

The conciliatory attitude isn't completely unheard of, but it does suggest that Uber's change of leadership might be having an effect on the company's once antagonistic approach. It flagged up Uber's approach to how medical certificates were obtained - for example, drivers using an online GP service via video rather than having a check in person as the regulations insist.
