Top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Abdul Qayoom Najar killed in Baramulla

Top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Abdul Qayoom Najar killed in Baramulla

Top Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Abdul Qayoom Najar was killed in a gunbattle with security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in Baramulla on Tuesday as he was trying to sneak into the valley to take charge of the outfit.

Imtiyaz Hussain, Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), said, "Najar was killed by security forces foiling an infiltration bid in Lachipora area near the LoC on Tuesday morning".

Lashkar e- Islam Chief was a rebel commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, who later formed the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Islam. Najar could have been the biggest challenge for security forces as he had the ability to revive militancy not only in north Kashmir but in the entire Valley, police officials said.

"His return was also necessitated because of wiping out of Hizb from north Kashmir", the police spokesman said. He briefly fell out with HM/Hurriyat leadership in 2015 when he orchestrated multiple attacks on mobile towers and killing of some civilians affiliated with Hurriyat.

Shifty Maria could prompt storm watch here by tomorrow
The hurricane claimed the lives of 30 people in the Caribbean, including at least 15 people in the small island Dominica. Panovich says by the time it reaches the Outer Banks, Maria should either be a weak hurricane or a strong tropical storm.

Ceasefire violations are tailored to provide cover for militants infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir as Qayoom Najar's encounter was also fashioned in a similar way.

He said Najar was an IED expert and involved in many IED blasts in Kashmir.

Qayoom was most wanted with a reward on his head for his involvement in several attacks on civilians as well as political leaders in Sopore and Handwara of Kashmir. "We should be thankful to our Army", the SSP said.

He rose through the ranks of terrorists after 2003 following the killing of the then Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Commander Abdul Majid Dar, who had entered into a dialogue process with the Government of India. In an interview with Firstpost in 2015, Najar's father had said that it was a fight between a neighbour and his son which forced him to join militants again in 2005, after police tried to arrest him in the case filed by a women. He was recalled to base camp in Muzaffarabad, POK to sort out the differences.
