Ryanair cancels more than 2000 flights over the next six weeks

Ryanair cancels more than 2000 flights over the next six weeks

Some, frustrated by how long they say it has taken to get a new flight from the airline, have shelled out for last-minute return journeys from other, more expensive, airline providers.

Ryanair will hire another 125 pilots in the next two weeks and increase their pay, Mr O'Leary told shareholders at the airline's AGM in Dublin.

Six Ryanair flights to and from Dublin today have been cancelled as part of the airline's plan to cancel 50 flights a day for the next six weeks.

RTÉ News has seen documents which raise the possibility of a work-to-rule by pilots, which would significantly worsen the current disruption to flights at the airline. Compensation for passengers forced to re-book could reach 25 million euros ($30 million).

It has previously dismissed reports that the loss of 140 of its pilots to a Norwegian rival this year has planned a role in the cancellations.

The airline has hired additional customer service personnel to accelerate the handling of flight change requests and the reimbursement of the passengers concerned.

Hurricane Maria Spaghetti Models Move Farther From Florida
At the Puerto Rico Convention Center, where many Irma evacuees still reside, volunteers are gearing up for Hurricane Maria . According to reports , the winds reached 160 miles per hour and are believed to be headed towards St.

Ryanair has also rejected suggestions that staff are tempted to begin industrial action, saying with captains looking to switch bases and first officers looking for promotions, there's no risk of blue flu.

"The bigger issue is that this debacle is opening the floodgates for pilots to demand better pay and working conditions", Heracleous said.

The bonuses would be conditional on completing more than 800 flight hours for Ryanair in the 12 months up to 31 October 2018.

The UK union is urging the airline to "do more to encourage pilots to stay with the airline, following news of its pilot holiday chaos" and to foster a "more attractive place for people to build their career".

"I would challenge any pilot to explain how this is a hard job or how it is they are overworked or how anybody who by law can't fly more than 18 hours a week could possibly be suffering from fatigue", he said at Ryanair's annual shareholder meeting on Thursday, according to The Guardian.

The airline said it expected to have re-accommodated more than 175,000 customers on other Ryanair flights and to have processed refunds for more than 20% of those affected by close of business yesterday.
