Nissan targets new Leaf global sales of more than 90000 a year

Nissan targets new Leaf global sales of more than 90000 a year

That's a significant increase over the current model - the latest version of which has a 155 mile range.

Based on looks alone, the answer is probably "yes".

The new LEAF is also more powerful than its predecessor-increasing its power output from 107 horses to 147 hp, while its torque jumps from 187 pound-feet to 236 lb-ft. The glossy "floating" roof joins seamlessly up with both the tinted rear windows and the dark boot, while the angular rear lights cut into the car's bodywork with welcome panache.

It's improved, but is the new Leaf starting from behind?

. For further scale, the Ford Focus is 12cm shorter but 3cm wider than the new Leaf.

The second generation Leaf gets a boost in its range thanks to its 40 kWh battery back, which should give it around a 150 mile range. While Nissan says the new Leaf has a top speed of 90mph, the company hasn't quoted a 0-62mph time.

Second-gen model gets horsepower and range upgrades. This setup isn't yet in place in the United Kingdom, but the Government recently announced a £20 million feasibility study in this area.

"If the range goes up and the price remains the same, the new Nissan Leaf will continue to offer one of the least expensive and practical ways to own a pure electric vehicle", Caldwell said.

USA test successfully intercepts ballistic missile
Earlier Tuesday, North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan, a close USA ally, that landed in the Pacific Ocean. In June, the John Paul Jones failed to shoot down its target missile in a similar test off Hawaii.

The battery supplier for the reinnovated Leaf is Automotive Energy Supply, the same as for the earlier Leaf. When the accelerator is fully released, regenerative and friction brakes are applied automatically, gradually bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. That vehicle is going up against our 2017 auto of the Year, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, and the also superb Tesla Model 3.

He did not elaborate on the timing of other EV models. A 7-inch touchscreen with the usual "infotainment" features is standard. The new Leaf also has a suite of driver-assist features, including lane assist and emergency braking.

Despite the redesign, some of the previous Leaf's negative characteristics have carried over. As we revealed yesterday, it has an extended range between charges and technology that includes an accelerator that also acts as a brake. Nissan not only plans a longer-range variant of the Leaf for 2019, but a Nissan designer let it slip that a Nissan Leaf Nismo is absolutely a possibility. The new Leaf is scheduled to be on display Saturday, Sept. 16 at the National Drive Electric Week event at De Anza Community College in Cupertino.

Faced with tighter global environmental regulations, most carmakers are investing heavily in the electric-car sector, sparking a ferocious race to create the next green vehicle. The semi-autonomous driving capability enables the vehicle to park without any human intervention.

CEO Carlos Ghosn confirmed at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that the next Leaf will be offered with Propilot technology, enabling complete single-lane autonomy.

Contrast that with the Leaf, which comes nicely equipped (aside from the range issue) for just under $30,000 - or about $22,500 after US government incentives.
