NASA has detected two solar flares of high intensity

NASA has detected two solar flares of high intensity

It was believed to be the largest solar flare in the current solar cycle - or the past 11 years.

The X-class is the most intense category of solar flares. Nasa said that both of the solar flares have been deemed X-class, which "denotes the most intense flares".

Solar storms are generally calm due to the Earth's protective magnetic field, but they could prove to be hazardous to modern living because they can cause destruction with continent-spanning electrical systems. If they become too entangled, the stored energy is released in the form of a solar flare. "A list of the most powerful solar flares recorded since 1976 ranks today's flare at number 14, tied with a similar explosion in 1990", wrote Tony Phillips, who runs spaceweather.com, on Thursday. An X2 is twice as intense as an X1, an X3 is three times as intense, etc. M-class flares are a tenth the size of X-class flares. The first solar flare was classified X2.2 with the second X9.3. This wavelength shows material in flares at temperatures over 10,000,000 Kelvin (18,000,000 Fahrenheit [10,000,000 Celsius]).

Solar astronomers classify flares according to their brightness in the X-ray wavelengths. The last such powerful X-class flare was 9.0 on December 5, 2006.

The iPhone 8 reportedly swaps the home button for gesture controls
According to Gurman, Apple's iPhone 8 has a "taller screen" than those you'd find in the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus . That means that PearlID can be used to unlock the iPhone 8 , authorize Apple Pay purchases, and access secure apps .

And a flare of this magnitude can cause radiation storms within the Earth's atmosphere and, as seen yesterday morning, radio blackouts.

While a CME did erupt in the wake of these two solar flares, NASA is still trying to analyze whether or not Earth is in its path.

The flares that occurred September 6 were responsible for high-frequency radio blackouts on the dayside of the planet lasting an hour. In fact, it was the largest one that the earth has seen in over a decade. These particles can zoom toward Earth at a few million miles an hour, hit our atmosphere, and create aurorae, or glittering curtains of light commonly known as the Northern Lights.

CMS and solar flares are different phenomena but often occur at the same time when it comes to the strongest solar flares.
