Michelle Williams is set to star in Sony's 'Venom' opposite Tom Hardy

Michelle Williams is set to star in Sony's 'Venom' opposite Tom Hardy

Sony's upcoming "Venom" standalone flick may have found its female lead, with Michelle Williams reportedly in talks for the secretive role.

The film is being directed by Ruben Fleischer. Sony didn't comment, but sources said talks are happening.

That would pit an Oscar-nominated actress against an Oscar-nominated actor in a superhero movie meant to launch a Sony-centric Marvel universe without their mainstay hero, Spider-Man, showing up at all. Sony recently released the trailer for Ridley Scott's "All the Money in the World," which is already generation Oscar buzz for Williams. Because it will not be set in the same universe as Spider-Man: Homecoming, it makes sense why the studio would introduce Ann Weying, as this would give them the option of a future She-Venom film. Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing the project for Columbia Pictures.

Turkey warns of 'security' steps in response to Iraqi Kurd vote
Saying that the referendum lacks worldwide legitimacy, Yilmaz called on KRG President Masoud Barzani to cancel it. Article 140 of the constitution was not implemented", he said.

Venom is scheduled for theatrical release on October 5, 2018.

Venom previously appeared on the big screen, played by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. This includes Venom and other Spider-Man-related characters like Silver Sable and Black Cat. More than that though, thanks to Williams' super-short pixie cut, she even looks similar to the character - making it even more likely that She-Venom is the character Williams has been tapped to play.

This marks another fantastical big-budget film for Williams as she has starred in Oz the Great and Powerful. Variety reports that the Oscar nominee is in negotiations for an unnamed role in the Marvel comics adaptation as a district attorney who may be Eddie Brock's love interest. This is obviously a major get for Sony, which views Venom as the kickoff to a major web of interconnected movies.
