Mercedes-AMG Project One Takes Aim at Aston Martin Valkyrie

Mercedes-AMG Project One Takes Aim at Aston Martin Valkyrie

This is the Mercedes-AMG Project One, a new hypercar with staggering levels of technology and performance.

We got a tiny glimpse of the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE hypercar last week, but today we're receiving "The Full Monty".

But the Project One, built to celebrate AMG's 50th anniversary this year, is so much more than just its powertrain. The new photo reveals a rear profile of AMG's latest brainchild, days after confirming its top speed would exceed the 350km/h mark. Project ONE raises the bar in terms of what is now technologically feasible and thanks to its combination of efficiency and performance it represents an absolute benchmark. The steering wheel looks similar to the one in the Mercedes AMG F1 cars, while the dash is also nearly completely devoid of features save a couple of digital screens.

Such a sophisticated setup brings with it enormous cost and maintenance: the Project One is expected to be priced at £2.4 million, while the engine is said to require significant maintenance after 31,000 miles. As we previously reported, the Project ONE is heavily derived from Formula 1 technology, including its carbon fiber monocoque construction and its turbocharged V6 engine. The four overhead camshafts are driven by spur gears. For higher longevity and the use of commercially available "Super Plus" gasoline instead of racing fuel, max engine speed remains significantly below the F1 engine speed limit. The front fenders rise above the wheels, a sculpted tail at the rear helps the downforce and a roof scoop feeds the rear-mounted 1.6-litre V6 engine. The Formula 1 designation for this unit is MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit Heat). The large rear spoiler extends in two stages to improve aero efficiency and stability as the air speed increases, while a cluster of smaller fins above each front wheel also control air flow according to road speed. With these axle motors, Mercedes says that up to 80 per cent of the braking energy dispelled during normal driving can be recuperated into the battery pack, while independent acceleration and braking mean that they can act as a torque vectoring system too. Each electric motor is controlled by its own power electronics located in close proximity to the electric motors in the floor assembly.

Being a hybrid means the Project One makes good use of its power.

NASA has detected two solar flares of high intensity
While a CME did erupt in the wake of these two solar flares , NASA is still trying to analyze whether or not Earth is in its path. This wavelength shows material in flares at temperatures over 10,000,000 Kelvin (18,000,000 Fahrenheit [10,000,000 Celsius]).
