Donates $1 mln to hurricane-hit Puerto Rico

Donates $1 mln to hurricane-hit Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico, Governor Rossello said the biggest concern was rain and flooding in the west of the island, adding that the authorities expected up to 25in [63cm] from the tail of the hurricane. From the southern coast, across the mountainous interior to the northern capital, the island of 3.4 million people saw roofs ripped away and homes flooded.

AIR's estimate for Maria includes damage to residential, commercial and industrial properties and vehicles, as well as losses due to business interruption and additional living expenses. The combined damage of both storms has left Puerto Rico devastated.

The storm destroyed 85 percent of all the island's towers. Police say they have arrested 120 people, most for violating the curfew. Speaking in NY last week, Trump acknowledged that Puerto Rico "was absolutely obliterated" by Maria, and said he would visit the territory, though he didn't specify when.

"We are working day and night to identify the needs", Lopez said.

The Pentagon on Monday also deployed eight UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from Fort Campbell in Kentucky to San Juan to help officials in Puerto Rico distribute goods across the island, Manning said.

More than 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid has already been distributed in the region, including more than four tonnes of food and water on the British Virgin Islands; 720 litres of water to the Turks and Caicos Islands; and more than two tonnes of building materials to Anguilla.

Clayton Kershaw Surrenders First Career Grand Slam
Unfortunately, Kershaw gave up his first ever grand slam in the 6th and that would be all the Phillies needed to win the game. The offensive outburst turned a loss into a win for Pivetta, who allowed just the two first-inning runs in six innings.

"We are sending out a cargo plane full of supplies that will be received by San Juan's mayor, who will then support the efforts to disperse them throughout the island, to the hardest-hit areas", Pacione-Zayas said. "We didn't know where to go".

Additionally, several telethons have been held to benefit Puerto Rico including on Univision and Telemundo.

The island territory of more than 3 million USA citizens is reeling in the devastating wake of Hurricane Maria.

Andrew Cuomo on Sunday launched a state effort to help hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico. An estimated total of $780 million in farm yields was lost to Maria, on top of $45 million lost to Hurricane Irma earlier this month, the Agriculture Department said.

The rain and winds may be over, but Maria's impact on Puerto Rico is only just beginning. Tim Duncan, former National Basketball Association star, is now raising funds on the crowdfunding platform for the Hurricane Irma relief efforts.
