Clayton Kershaw Surrenders First Career Grand Slam

Clayton Kershaw Surrenders First Career Grand Slam

Unfortunately, Kershaw gave up his first ever grand slam in the 6th and that would be all the Phillies needed to win the game.

It was the first grand slam allowed in Kershaw's career, and the one mistake was all it took for Kershaw (17-4) to get the loss, allowing all four runs to come on one pitch, scattering four hits with two walks (both in the 6 inning) with six strikeouts in six innings. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Altherr's home run broke Kershaw's 32-inning scoreless streak against Philadelphia - his longest versus any team in his career. The Phillies are one of only three teams Kershaw has a losing record against.

The offensive outburst turned a loss into a win for Pivetta, who allowed just the two first-inning runs in six innings. I was just looking in a certain zone. Taylor's was an inside the park homer for his 20th of the season, with Turner following that up with his 21st of the season, as he hit one to left off starting pitcher Nick Pivetta.

Is the home run obsession in baseball responsible for the damage being done to Kershaw just like every other pitcher - or is it a sign of his growing mortality as his 30th birthday approaches? All told, the Texas native threw 29,188 pitches in his career before surrendering his first grand slam, a staggering run that dates all the way back to 2008.

Rhys Hoskins went 1-2 with a single and a walk.

Jose begins Atlantic loop
However, most computer models indicate Jose will stay out to sea and complete a tight enough loop to avoid moving onshore. It will likely dissipate from Tuesday evening, the National Hurricane Center said.

"I really don't have an answer for that".

"You can see him feeling for things", Roberts said. "We had the lead and I blew it and we lost, so there's not a lot of progress there to be had". And he's at four, so I definitely know he's trending in the right way. A single to Freddy Galvis and another walk later in the inning loaded the bases with two outs. "The ball was heading there, so I was able to put a good swing on it".

The Dodgers all came on home runs as well - an inside-the-park home run by Chris Taylor to start the game, a solo shot by Justin Turner three pitches later then nothing more until Curtis Granderson went deep with one out in the ninth. "Right there, I liked our chances".

Taylor's wind-blown home run caromed off the metal guardrail in front of the center-field bleachers and took a fortuitous bounce toward left field.
