11-year-old boy, parents killed in Italian volcanic field

11-year-old boy, parents killed in Italian volcanic field

It is believed that the 11 year old boy wandered past the security barrier and fell into the crater when his parents attempted to rescue him.

Three members of the same family have died after falling into a volcanic crater in Italy.

Italian reports identified them as Massimiliano Carrer, Tiziana Zaramella and their son, Lorenzo.

Reports conflict, but in general they agree that the Italian family's 11-year-old son crossed a protective barrier and entered an area of the Solfatara volcanic crater that's off-limits to tourists.

Firemen on the scene said the three victims, who were on holiday from northern Italy, appeared to have died from asphyxia, possibly because of hot gases emanating from the ground.

Angelina Jolie Perfected Her Maleficent Voice While Giving Her Kids Baths
And just like that, the Jolie-Pitt's prove they're just like any other family! She went on, "They're having a great time". Surrounded by her children (only Maddox missed the call), the actress shone and seemed more happy than ever.

The family's 7-year-old son ran for helped and did not fall into the crater, The Guardian stated. It was a tragedy; they pulled out two bodies, then pulled us away.

Emergency crews were said to have arrived within minutes of the tragedy. "I continue to think about that family and that poor baby crying and asking for help", Vitagliano said.

Signs around the crater in multiple languages warn of the danger of burning from high soil temperatures and steam up to 160 degrees Celsius (320 degrees Fahrenheit.) Visitors are told to stay clear of fumaroles, openings in the Earth's crust that emit steam and gases, and not to climb the slopes or breach the fences.

"I've been here for a long time and such a mischance has never happened", Armando Guerriero, proprietor of a bar situated close to the passage to the spring of gushing lava, told the ANSA news office.

The site was formed around 4,000 years ago and last erupted in 1198 AD.
