Violence erupts in Myanmar, Rohingya Muslims flee to Bangladesh amid gunfire

BANGKOK-Myanmar's government and advocates for the country's Muslim Rohingya ethnic minority traded charges last Sunday of killing civilians, burning down buildings and planting land mines as clashes began last week, when insurgents launched attacks against police posts continued.

In March 2017, the United Nations Human Rights Council announced that it would investigate allegations of rights abuses by the Myanmarese army on the Rohingyas.

During Sunday prayers, the pontiff expressed solidarity with Myanmar's persecuted Rohingya Muslim community, calling for them to have "full rights".

The office of the country's leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, said on Friday that military and border police responded to the attacks by launching "clearance operations".

The outbreak involved clashes between the military and several hundred of Rohingya across northwestern Rakhine.

"The soldiers and security forces were not able to go as far as they thought they could", Nyi Pu said.

The camp was set up in October a year ago when an earlier influx of as many as 85,000 Rohingya crossed the border.

Myanmar authorities have previously said they have links to militants trained by the Pakistani Taliban.

According to estimates by Rohingya refugees living in squalid camps in Bangladesh, some 2,000 Muslims have already crossed the border into Bangladesh during the past two days.

United States embassy in Russian Federation to scale back visa services amid tensions
The cuts are likely to affect thousands of Russians who visit the U.S. every year for tourism, business, and academic programs. Russian Federation didn't immediately respond, waiting to see if Trump would be able to strike a more conciliatory tone.

Deadly attacks by the militants on border police have prompted a military response that left scores dead and forced tens of thousands to flee to Bangladesh.

The death toll from ongoing clashes between Myanmar's troops and the so-called advocates of the persecuted Rohingya Muslims has reached almost 100, as thousands of desperate Muslims recently entered the neighboring Bangladesh, fleeing from intensified crackdown on the minority by Buddhist mobs and security forces over recent attacks on police outposts.

The announcement was the first by the government to list civilians among the dead-six people identified as Hindu said to have been killed by the insurgents.

Not to mention the blood on our hands if we make no effort to stop the massacre of the Rohingya now.

Using a dialect similar to that spoken in Chittagong in southeast Bangladesh, the Sunni Muslims are loathed by many in majority-Buddhist Myanmar who see them as illegal immigrants and call them "Bengali"-even though many have lived in Myanmar for generations".

For some years now, worldwide human rights groups and the United Nations have reported wide-scale human rights violations against the Rohingyas, including extrajudicial killings, gang rapes, arsons and other violence.

It also said that any "writing in medias in support of extremist terrorists and ARSA are banned and if those acts described above are found committed in domestic, action will be taken in accordance with Counter-Terrorism Law".

Annan also condemned the new attacks, saying "no cause can justify such brutality and senseless killing" and urging the government to exercise restraint and "ensure that innocent civilians are not harmed".
