Charlie Gard's Parents Drop Request to Let Him Die at Home

Charlie Gard's Parents Drop Request to Let Him Die at Home

"What if it was your child", she said.

Both his parents and doctors have agreed that he should move to a hospice, Mr Justice Francis heard.

After announcing their decision to end their legal battle with GOSH at the High Court in London, Gard said: "This is one of the hardest things we will have to say.this is about a sweet innocent boy born with a disease".

Charlie Gard's parents Chris Gard and Connie Yates speak to the media outside the High Court in London, after they ended their legal fight over treatment for the terminally ill baby.

His parents have made the heartbreaking decision to abandon their fight with the hospital over whether life-support should be removed instead of him being allowed experimental treatment in America.

He said the "window of opportunity has been lost" to help Charlie, according to Sky News.

The hospital also said that Charlie's ventilator would not fit through the door of his parents' west London home, and that the property's stairs and corners would make it hard to negotiate equipment through and would likely require Charlie to be taken off the ventilator to get inside.

"His care can not be simplified, it must be provided in a specialist setting by specialists", it said.

They said the couple now wanted a move to a hospice. Hospital staff would remain with Charlie until it was time to take him off life support.

Erdoğan, Macron voice concern over Israeli restrictions on Al-Aqsa mosque
According to Israeli radio reports , protest marches were also held on Friday in Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Malaysia and Indonesia. The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the teen as Muhammad Mahmoud Sharaf from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.

The parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, spent months trying to persuade Great Ormond Street Hospital to let Charlie go to the United States for experimental treatment.

The parents' lawyer conceded that the home option was not possible, but asked for more time to try to find an alternative.

These bioethical dilemmas beg for broader discussions on the end of life and how nurses, physicians and other care providers can help parents share their preferences and goals for their child's life and death.

Mr Gard and Ms Yates, who are in their 30s and come from Bedfont, west London, had originally asked Mr Justice Francis to rule that Charlie should be allowed to undergo a therapy trial in NY.

"This indecision is compounding the parents' misery", he said.

'Anything that can encourage them to spend the last few days with Charlie rather than with lawyers or experts has to be in everyone's best interests'.

Mahoney posted on Facebook that Charlie's parents "have until 12 PM tomorrow to meet the requirements of Great Ormond Street hospital in terms of bringing Charlie home for his final hours".

A hospital representative described the parents' plans as not "in any way viable".
