Pakistan climb to seventh in ICC rankings

In one of the biggest upsets of ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Pakistan knocked out hosts England in the first semi-final at Cardiff and former England captain Nasser Hussain believes Eoin Morgan chose the wrong moment to go all guns blazing against Hasan Ali. We knew that we were going to play on a used wicket at some stage in this tournament, and certainly we found out the other day that today was going to be on a used wicket.

"One thing we didn't do was adapt to conditions; coming from Edgbaston to a used wicket, Pakistan did that well and played better", Morgan said during the post-match presentations.

Meanwhile Sarfraz said: "England are a good team so we have to play positive cricket against them". Before the game I said it would depend which Pakistan turned up.

When asked how Pakistan managed to score at 5.7 runs an over on the same surface that England had managed just 211 on in nearly 50 overs, Morgan replied: "I think the explanation is they played two days ago on it".

A good start was needed from the home bowlers for them to stand any real chance of victory, but after Mark Wood's first ball of the innings went down the leg side to be given as a wide, the tone was set.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said after the match that Hasan had "a little bit shin problem, but he's OK and bowling extremely well for us".

What made Wednesday's win all the more impressive was that it came just 10 days after Pakistan launched their Champions Trophy campaign with a woeful 124-run hammering by arch-rivals India. If we play good cricket, definitely we will win this tournament.

Murray happy to win ugly against Nishikori
Nadal was leading 6-2, 2-0 at the time. "On Friday is Nadal". Wawrinka has won nine straight matches on clay court. It certainly wasn't the best match I've played here.

"We left ourselves short today adapting to conditions".

"Of course, when you're playing at home, you'd like to think conditions are going to be slightly favourable to you".

As for England, there is a lot they can take from the tournament and use as they build towards the 2019 World Cup, which is also on home soil. It should be a quality show in Cardiff with both teams having quality batsmen to back their top-class bowling attack.

Pakistan claimed a superb and entirely unexpected victory over England to send the hosts crashing out of the ICC Champions Trophy, winning by eight wickets to reach Sunday's final.

"Yes, I will have that India under-19 game in mind", he said.

India vs Bangladesh is the second semifinal, to be played at Edgbaston on Thursday, and what India can not do, absolutely can not do, is take Bangladesh lightly.

'What we have seen today is a Pakistan team turn up and deliver a flawless performance'.
