Trump White House actions shake Republicans; chaos follows Federal Bureau of Investigation director Comey's sacking

Trump White House actions shake Republicans; chaos follows Federal Bureau of Investigation director Comey's sacking

In a statement released by the White House, Mr. Trump said: "The FBI is one of our nation's most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement".

Trump's daring decision to oust Comey sparked comparisons to Nixon, who fired the special prosecutor running the Watergate investigation that ultimately led to his downfall.

Nevertheless, CBS News reporter Elizabeth Palmer caught up with Vladimir Putin on his way out of the tunnel to ask him how he thinks the firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey will affect U.S. -Russia relations. Trump was mad at Comey for eventually going easy on Hillary Clinton - although he was pleased Comey initially implicated her in the email server issue - while turning his attention to probing the Trump campaign's links to Russian Federation.

Earlier in the hearing, the Acting FBI Director refused to comment on President Trump's claim that he had been told he was not under investigation related to the probe of Russian actions in the 2016 US elections.

Current and former officials have said that the president became increasingly dissatisfied with the FBI's response to concerns raised by Trump administration officials about a number of issues, including how the agency was investigated alleged leaks.

Political shockwaves in the United States following President Donald Trump showing director of the FBI James Comey the door. Yet calls for an independent investigation into the Trump-Russia accusations have grown since Trump's election, from both sides of the aisle, including leading Republicans such as Vista Rep.

A congressional source with knowledge of the matter said Comey told lawmakers within the past few days he had asked the Justice Department for additional resources - mainly more staffing - for the Russian Federation probe. Mr. Clinton said his attorney general, Janet Reno, reviewed Mr. Sessions's leadership and concluded "in no uncertain terms that he can no longer effectively lead the bureau".

Swansea out of bottom three with crucial Everton victory
Fernando Llorente is confident Swansea will stay up after escaping the Premier League relegation zone with two games left to play. Middlesbrough visits Chelsea on Monday. "There are four incredible teams fighting for the final two places in the top four".

The officials say Comey told lawmakers he had made the request to Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general.

Sanders, speaking Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America", said, "I have heard that directly from him (Trump), that that information was relayed directly to him from Director Comey".

Fanatical as that take might sound, Hannity wasn't even the first Fox News talker to advance it. Andrew Napolitano suggested on Martha MacCallum's 7 p.m. show that Comey may have been fired so that Clinton could be "indicted for espionage". The White House informed Comey by sending him an email with several documents, including Rosenstein's memo. She said Trump became concerned about Comey's efforts to work outside the Justice Department's chain of command during the Clinton investigation, citing congressional testimony from last week that provided more details of his actions previous year.

Sanders said the president's position changed, because Trump was a presidential candidate in October, which is different from being president.

It's unclear whether Rosenstein was aware his report would be used to justify the director's ouster.

A farewell letter from Comey that circulated among friends and colleagues said he does not plan to dwell on the decision to fire him or on "the way it was executed". But questions about Russian Federation, the ongoing FBI investigation and Comey's dismissal dominated the hearing. "We are now at that moment", it said.
