Trump boasted about firing 'nut job' Comey to Russian officials

The document was based on notes taken inside the Oval Office and the Times reports it has been circulated as the official account of the meeting.

And though Trump told the Russians he wasn't under investigation, that assessment was challenged by another bombshell report from The Washington Post that claimed the FBI's probe into interference in the 2016 presidential election is focused on a current White House adviser.

Reuters reported on Thursday that Flynn and other Trump campaign advisers were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails during the last seven months of the presidential race.

The reports come as the President leaves for his first foreign trip.

Mr. McCarthy told reporters, "He has no evidence that Comey asked for any further resources, that all the resources were there".

Spicer offered a new explanation for the firing, saying that Trump had been trying to improve relations with Russia-and Comey got in the way.

Whether Comey would testify at all about his memos and firing before Congress was an open question among lawmakers after the Justice Department on Wednesday named Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate allegations of collusion between Russian officials and Trump campaign aides in Moscow's efforts to influence the election.

The Justice Department on Friday issued the text of Rosenstein's opening remarks for the briefings on Capitol Hill.

The conversation is another indication that Trump's primary reason for firing Comey was because of concern over the feds' probe into Russia's meddling in the election and possible collusion with Team Trump.

Trump's speech envisions new partnerships with America's allies in the Middle East and refrains from mentioning democracy and human rights.

Celtics win NBA draft lottery, Lakers at No. 2 keep pick
The Suns finished with the second-worst record in the National Basketball Association this past season. And no talk about the pick can come without wondering what direction this team will go.

If the department did not grant a waiver, Mueller would be barred from investigating Kushner or Manafort, and this could greatly diminish the scope of the probe, experts said. "There was considerable frustration in the room", said Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., a member of the Armed Services Committee.

As The New York Times has reported, after numerous encounters with the administration, Comey felt he had to set the parameters of appropriate protocol very clearly. "I don't think (Rosenstein) did a lot to bolster our confidence in him today".

A White House counsel is supposed to have a higher allegiance to the office of the presidency than to the president who occupies the office, legal experts said.

Rosenstein made it abundantly clear to the lawmakers that he drafted his memo only after Trump told him of his plans to dismiss the Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

When he announced Mueller's appointment this week, Rosenstein said Mueller will have "all appropriate resources to conduct a thorough and complete investigation". Wittes writes "he regarded the episode as a physical attempt to show closeness and warmth in a fashion calculated to compromise him before Democrats who already mistrusted him". "I believe it. I stand by it". Rosenstein denounced that as "profoundly wrong and unfair".

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R. -S.C., said he was "surprised" former FBI Director James Comey will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Trump has reacted furiously to the appointment. However, the newly appointed special counsel reports to the deputy attorney general.

But Senate Judiciary Committee leaders - who also wanted Comey to testify before their panel in the wake of his dismissal - criticized the former director's decision to appear only before the Intelligence Committee.

Trump's comments about Comey are not the only controversial remarks he made during that meeting.
